*UPDATE: Please check out my post The Judge Gilliam Challenge for more information on the story behind this article! (Judge Gilliam is the “judge who regularly deals with youth” that originally wrote these words.)
I could hash over why FailBlog decided to categorized this article under “Parenting Fails” – I honestly can’t tell if they posted this because they agree with the article or because they disagree – but that’s not really worth debating right now. It’s enough for the sake of this post to say that I agree with it. I don’t know if I’d have worded some things the same way (“cry baby” probably wasn’t the most diplomatic word choice), but the overall message is good.
My favorite part?
“You are important and you are needed.”
That’s just it, isn’t it? It’s not about bemoaning the state of today’s youth. It’s about the power and the personal responsibility they have to make the world a better place. So teenagers, give the world your time, energy, and talents. No one else can do that for you. It’s on you. And we need them!
